Last Statement:

First I would like to say I have been here since September 2005.  I had the honor and privilege to know many prison guards and staff.  I want to thank all of them.  I would like for everyone to write the people on death row as they are all good men and I am very happy I got to know them.  All of their lives are worth knowing about.

Secondly on February 14th the medical examiner and the chief nurse were engaged in numerous false illegal acts.  They tried to cover up that thousands were wrongfully convicted by Matt Powell, district attorney.  This needs to be brought to justice.

I call upon the FBI to investigate Matt Powell and the Lubbock County Medical Examiner.  Lastly, I was born and raised Catholic and it was not lost upon me that this is Holy Week and last Sunday was Palm Sunday.  Yesterday was my birthday.  Today is the day I join my God and father.  The state may have my body but not my soul.

In order to save my brothers on death row I call upon Pope Francis and all the people of the world.

Lastly, I want everyone to boycott every single business  in the state of Texas until all the businesses are pressed to stop the death penalty.

With that Lord I commend my spirit.

Hello Dear Reader,

     My name is Rosendo Rodriguez III. I was born on March 26th 1980 in Wichita Falls, Texas. I am 29 years old and Mexican-American. I have served in the military as a United States Marine, and I have attended Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas where my majors were both International Politics and European History. I love how governments of Western Europe operate, and my favorite period of history is the Second World War.

I have played soccer my whole life, and I continue to follow it, even here in prison. My favorite team is the national team of Mexico, but I like many European soccer teams as well, like Manchester United, Bayern München, A.C. Milan, and Ajax Amsterdam. I follow quite a few sports, so let me know what you like.

I am a movie addict! My top favorite movies are Gladiator and Kill Bill. Anything directed by Quentin Tarantino is great in my book, and Robert De Niro, Mickey Rourke, Christopher Walken, and Uma Thurman are my favorite actors.

My music tastes range from Classical. (Moonlight Sonata, Adagio on Springs and O Fortuna are the best) to Country, George Strait, and Willie Nelson to Rock ( Led Zepplin, AC/DC, Rolling Stones, Creedence) and also Punk Rock (Sexpistols, and The Clash)

With literature, I can read anything so long as it's not too dry. Shakespeare's Macbeth and Romeo and Juliet are full of double entendre which are his two best tales. While Cormac McCarthy's No Country for old men and The Road are modern day stories of gloom and doom that keep you guessing. Nicola Machiavelli's The Prince is the most frank and amoral political treatise I've ever read.

Now, even though I like to read political theorist’s like Machiavelli who think that all men are bad and should only serve themselves, (which I do not believe). I am an eternal optimist. I feel that despite the fact that we here on Death Ro are in a dire situation (and are also condemned to die) I am of the firm belief that no situation is completely hopeless or beyond saving. There are to sayings I like, one in German: " Die Lage ist doch noch zu retten" and in Dutch " Ik roei met de riemen die ik heb". ( If you do not know what they mean, look them up!)  Those two sayings explain my philosophy on how to handle a tough situation such as the one we are all in here on Death Row.

Here on Death Row we pass the time discussing politics, daily events, and anything else that may rise in the course of conversation. I have met some very intelligent and enlightened individuals here on the Row who are rather well informed on variety of subjects tangling from History to religion to politics.

I also like to play Dungeons & Dragons (role playing game) and Magic the Gathering (a collectible card game), which are ideal for us here in prison, in that they are both entertaining and that they take up a lot of time! It also allows us to "leave" here for awhile, (at least in our minds anyway). If you are fellow players of either games, please let me know in your letter, as our resources are rather limited and we would appreciate any help you could provide.

Currently I am writing a book about Zombies that attack the world, but especially this prison. It's a horror novel mind you, but it also has a fair dose of dark comedy in it as well. Basically, we Death Row prisoners fight a united front against the flesh eating undead, and in the process find a purpose for our lives. It is a tale of redemption in that if we were given a second chance, we would be able to salvage our lives and do what is right by fighting an external threat to "society"   which thinks that e prisoners here on Death Row are the worst. (Ironic, is, is not?) By having nothing to lose as prisoners condemned to die, we also see the chance to give our lives meaning by rectifying and atoning those things in which we were accused of. (Keep in mind I used the word accused, since there are people here who did not commit the crimes they were accused of.)  We find this new purpose by destroying the zombie hordes.

My native language is English, however I can also speak Spanish and I also speak German fairly well. I would like to practice both my Spanish and German, so if you are interested in writing me, we can write half English, half in German or half Spanish and half English, depending on where you’re from.

I would like to meet people not only here in the U.S. but also from all over. Any place, from Mexico to all of South America, to Europe on to Africa, and from the Middle East all the way across Asia to Japan. The author Mark Twain once wrote that "Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness." Although I obliviously cannot travel, my words certainly can, and I honestly believe that if everyone here in the United States travelled abroad to foreign countries, we Americans would be a lot less hypocritical and arrogant. (Especially concerning our justice system)  

I welcome anyone to write, male or female, of any nationality, ethnicity, religion, etc. All I ask is that you be open-minded and non-judgemental, nor bigoted. I am an excellent conversationalist and I promise not to disappoint. Although I am of limited funds, I promise to write anyone who sends a letter, though the cost of stamps is rising!

If you are a computer expert on finding information, however obscure, on the internet, please feel free to write. I am in content need of research for my book that I am writing, and I would also need assistance in scanning and making duplicates of photographs I have. I also read like there's no tomorrow, so I am on the lookout for individuals or organisations that provide free or low-cost books for reading enjoyment to prisoners. My neighbors and I here on the Row are always trading reading material, so we would greatly appreciate your help.

Should you decide to write, please include a photo of you, your daily life, the area around where you live, etc. It helps me get an idea of those who I write, and believe me, it is a nice change of scenery from prison walls bars!

mein Name ist Rosendo Rodriguez III. Ich wurde am 26. März 1980 in Wichita Falls, Texas geboren. Ich bin 29 Jahre alt und Mexikanischer Amerikaner. In der Literatur lese ich alles solange es nicht zu trocken ist. Shakespeare’s Macbeth und Romeo und Julia sind voller Zweideutigkeiten und seine beiden besten Geschichten während Cormac McCarthy’s No Country for old men und The Road moderne Weltuntergangs Geschichten zum miträtseln sind.

Nicola Machiavelli's The Prince ist die offenste und amoralisch diplomatischste Abhandlung die ich je gelesen habe. Obwohl ich gerne politische Theoretiker wie Machiavelli lese, die denken das alle Menschen schlecht sind und sich nur um sich selbst kümmern sollten (was ich nicht glaube) bin ich ein ewiger Optimist. Ich fühle so obwohl wir hier im Todestrakt in einer schrecklichen Lage sind (und verurteilt wurden zu sterben) bin ich des festen Glaubens, dass keine Lage komplett hoffnungslos oder nicht mehr zu retten ist. Es gibt zwei Sprichwörter die ich mag, eins auf deutsch: “Die Lage ist doch noch zu retten" und eins auf holländisch "Ik roei met de riemen die ik heb". (Falls Sie nicht verstehen, was sie bedeuten, schauen Sie doch mal nach.) Diese beiden Sprichwörter erklären meine Philosophie wie ich mit schweren Situationen, (wie z.B. damit, dass wir hier alle im Todestrakt sind) umgehe.

Hier im Todestrakt verbringen wir die Zeit damit, Politik, das tägliche Geschehen und alles andere was sich so ergibt zu diskutieren. Ich habe einige sehr intelligente und weise Individuen hier im Todestrakt kennen gelernt, die sehr gut über verschiedene Themen informiert sind - von Geschichte über Religion bis hin zur Politik.

Ich spiele gern Dungeons & Dragons (Rollenspiel) und Magic The Gathering (ein Karten Sammelspiel), diese Spiele sind ideal für uns hier im Gefängnis, da beide Unterhaltsam sind und viel Zeit in Anspruch nehmen. Außerdem kann man so einige Zeit von hier “entfliehen”, zumindest geistig.

Falls Sie auch eines dieser Spiele spielen, lassen Sie es mich in Ihrem Brief wissen, da unsere Ressourcen hier sehr eingeschränkt sind und wir uns über jede Hilfe freuen die wir bekommen können.
Derzeit schreibe ich ein Buch über Zombies die die Welt attackieren, insbesondere dieses Gefängnis. Es ist allerdings ein Horror Roman, aber er hat auch ein gewisses Maß an schwarzem Humor. Im Grunde geht es darum, dass wir Todestrakt Häftlinge einen vereinigten Kampf gegen die Fleischfressenden Untoten kämpfen und währenddessen eine Bestimmung für unsere Leben finden. Es ist eine Geschichte über Erlösung in der wir eine zweite Chance bekommen. Wir würden in der Lage sein unsere Leben zu retten und zu tun, was richtig ist um eine äußere Bedrohung durch die "Gesellschaft" zu bekämpfen, die denkt dass Gefangene im Todestrakt das schlimmste sind. (Ironisch, ist es, ist es nicht?)

Als Häftling, der nichts zu verlieren hat da er zum Tode verurteilt ist, bekommen wir außerdem die Chance unserem Leben eine Bedeutung zu geben und jene Dinge, in denen wir beschuldigt wurden richtigzustellen und zu sühnen. (Beachte das Wort beschuldigt, da hier auch Leute sitzen die die Verbrechen für die sie beschuldigt wurden gar nicht begangen haben.)

Wir finden diese neue Bestimmung durch die Zerstörung der Zombie Horden.
Meine Muttersprache ist englisch, aber ich spreche auch ziemlich gut spanisch und deutsch. Ich würde beide Sprachen gern trainieren, also falls Sie interessiert sind mir zu schreiben, können Sie gern halb englisch, halb deutsch oder halb spanisch und halb englisch schreiben, je nachdem woher Sie stammen.
Ich würde mich freuen, Menschen kennen zulernen die nicht nur aus den U.S. stammen sondern aus der ganzen Welt. Egal woher, Mexiko bis ganz Süd Amerika, zu Europa und Afrika, vom mittleren Osten bis zu Asien und Japan. Der Autor Mark Twain hat mal geschrieben das “Reisen ist tödlich für Vorurteile, Bigotterie und Engstirnigkeit”.

Auch wenn ich selbst offensichtlich nicht verreisen kann, meine Worte können es auf jeden Fall und ich bin ehrlich ganz sicher wenn jeder hier in den Vereinigten Staaten 'mal in fremde Länder reisen würde, wären wir Amerikaner viel weniger scheinheilig und arrogant. (Ganz besonders was unser Rechtssystem angeht.)

Ich begrüße es jedem zu schreiben, ob männlich oder weiblich, jeder Nationalität, Ethnizität, Religion, etc.
Ich wünsche mir nur, dass Sie offen, nicht wertend und nicht bigott sind. Ich bin ein ausgezeichneter Unterhalter und verspreche Sie nicht zu enttäuschen.
Obwohl ich nur begrenzten Mittel habe, verspreche ich jedem, der einen Brief schickt zu schreiben, auch wenn die Kosten für Briefmarken steigend sind!

Falls Sie ein Experte darin sind, mit dem Computer im Internet Informationen über Zweifelhaftes zu finden, schreiben Sie mir bitte. Ich brauche ständig Recherchen für mein Buch das ich schreibe und ich würde auch Hilfe beim scannen und duplizieren von Fotografien die ich habe benötigen. Außerdem lese ich als würde es kein Morgen geben, daher suche ich Individuen oder Organisationen die gratis oder günstige Bücher für das Lesevergnügen der Häftlinge zur Verfügung stellen können. Meine Nachbarn und ich hier im Todestrakt tauschen ständig das Lesematerial, daher würden wir uns riesig über Ihre Hilfe freuen.
